Rugby has been part of Didcot’s sporting identity since 1933, when the first known rugby team was formed in the town. Although detailed records of the early decades are not publicly available, the club’s long-standing presence shows how deeply rugby has been woven into the community for more than ninety years.

Today, Didcot RUFC is an RFU-affiliated community club based at Boundary Park on Great Western Park, where it provides rugby opportunities for players across a wide range of ages and abilities. The club runs senior men’s sides, the Didcot Valkyries women’s team, a thriving minis and juniors section, and walking rugby, which offers a low-impact, highly social format ideal for newcomers, returning players, and those seeking a gentler version of the sport.

The men’s 1st XV competes in the Counties 2 Tribute Berks/Bucks & Oxon North league, regularly facing local rivals such as Grove, Abingdon and Wallingford. Recent seasons have highlighted the club’s commitment to developing homegrown talent, including notable moments where colts have stepped up into senior rugby.

Although some early historical details remain undocumented, Didcot RUFC continues to build on its long heritage. Its modern identity blends competitive rugby, youth development, and community engagement, ensuring that rugby remains a vibrant part of life in Didcot.
